The Shape of the Service

Our services are built around a few simple things, done in much the same order each week.

None of them are complicated, but each one is deliberate.

Singing

  • At Mid-America Baptist Church, we believe that music is an important part of worship and ministry. The Bible teaches us to sing unto the Lord and to use psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to encourage, edify, and teach one another.
  • Because of this, we believe that both the words we sing and the way we sing them are important. We seek to choose music that is Biblically sound, honoring to the Lord, and consistent with the truths of His Word. Our music is traditional and conservative, with simple accompaniment that keeps the focus on the message of the song and the God we are worshiping.
  • We love singing together as a church family, and we invite you to join us! Please feel free to listen and follow along with the words in the hymnal or on the screen. You may find that the words themselves become a source of encouragement, instruction, and blessing.
  • Our desire is that our congregational singing would do more than simply sound beautiful—it would glorify God, strengthen His people, and point our hearts toward the truths of His Word.

Prayer

We begin by praying. Prayer is how the children of God speak with their Heavenly Father — plainly, and with real confidence that He listens. We also start here because we are honest about our limits: without God's help, nothing we do in the next hour is worth much. So we ask Him to guide our worship, and we bring the needs of our church family before Him.

Offering

Everything we have came from God's hand, so returning a portion of it to Him is something we do gladly rather than grudgingly. It is an act of worship that our church family is privileged to share in.
If you are visiting, there is no expectation for you to give. None at all. Our children help in the collection and bring the money to our collection box while our instrumentalists play.

Preaching

By now you have probably gathered that we think the Bible belongs at the center of ordinary life. This part of the service is simply another chance to sit under it. We preach, teach, and read together from the King James Version, so that everyone in the room is following the same words on the same page.
If you did not bring a Bible, there is one in the pew rack in front of you.We believe God gave His Word carefully and precisely, so we try to handle it the same way.

Our preaching and teaching is mainly expositional.

How should I dress?

You will see a range of dress on a Sunday morning. Many of our folks dress up — suits, ties, dresses — as their own way of honoring the Lord, and that is a good thing. But there is no dress code here and no one at the door is sizing you up.

If you are bringing children:

Your children are welcome in the service, and families begin the morning service together. Children sit with their parents through the singing, and the offering.

Once the offering is finished, the younger ones are dismissed to their own classes:

Nursery:  Ages 0–3

Our nursery workers come for the little ones and take them back to the nursery, where they are cared for through the rest of the service.

Junior Church: Ages 4–11

Our Junior Church workers take this group to their own service, where the Bible is taught at their level.

At the end of the service, the Junior Church workers walk the children back into the auditorium to meet their families.

Parents of nursery children, please come by the nursery to pick up your little one.
